Mockingbird is one of those characters I’ve loved since the first time I saw them (Hawkeye mini in the 80’s for me). I was lucky enough to be the cover artist on the Hawkeye & Mockingbird series some 5 years ago (great book by Jim McCann and artist David López), and when I was offered to do the cover of one of these SHIELD comics, I jumped at the chance to draw her again .
I really had a lot of fun doing this one.
Here it is.

Panini and I agreed on a cover featuring a central Leia, pictured as the leader she is in the trilogy. Strong and resourceful. I tweaked a little her dress to make her look more fit to combat while keeping the iconic visual.
I thought you might enjoy a larger scan fo this one.
At first, I went for a big blue sky for that Secret Wars #0 double spread, but realized all the incursions had been portrayed in redish tones in the previous years…so I reworked the whole thing to match with the continuity.
After several tweaks and editorial notes, I also added a few characters from that first sketch. I so wanted to have Northstar in, Byrne’s era. Sad to have to get rid of my little Surfer, but I had to.Those are all the flyers I could think of (of course a few names came to me afterward, but it was too late to add them)
