Astonishing X-Men BW by PaulRenaud Astonishing X-Men BW by PaulRenaud
This is the black and white art for the X-Men cover I did for the French market.
The X-Men figures were inked with "PITT artist pens" from Faber-Castell. The background villains were left uninked for contrast.
Here is the final colored version:

I walked away from the X-Men, being weary of the mutant storylines. I also walked away from Marvel, DC and even Archie, period !

i've always been very fond of this cover (it's the queen-faces in the background), so i'm very pleased that i found you here and compliment you on it! ^^

Beautiful work, sir! I love the contrast in the way you left Emma Frost as mostly line art, then inked the X-Men behind her and left the bad guys in pencil. It really gives a sense of depth when you finish each layer with a different media.

I used to work exclusively with the PITT pens myself. I'm having a ball giving the Copic multiliner SPs a run though. The SP brush pen is sexy. It's like the PITT but with more bounce I guess would be the word. I used them all in conjunction now. Need to pick up a new F pen from the PITTs actually. mine's close to death. I can just feel it.

Gorgeous piece.

The contrast definitely works. I like the simple line across the face for a mouth that I notice in Mystique and Cyclops. Simple yet effective.

You really got a lot out of those pens, I found them sorta hard to use, but you make it look easy. I like this version more than the colored one, the penciled heads are my favorite part.
