I was asked to draw poster for a special small run print for the French Comic Convention in Lille 2007. I chose to draw the X-Men, re-imagining the splash from Uncanny X-Men 175. I've always been a huge fan of Paul Smith (back then, and even more nowadays), I was really thrilled to do this homage.

The art was done in pen and ink with some dry brush work here and there. Later digitally colored.

This is absolutely gorgeous.

I actually grew up with a mural of the Smith version of this scene painted life sized on the wall of my bedroom, and loved it then. Your version, if anything, is even more stunning. I particularly love the sweep of her hair, and the dry brush. I also appreciate how soft your lines are here, more in keeping with the Smith original, without the harsh angles you see a lot of these days.

An instant fav.

YEAH there was a time when every artist seemed to be called Smith then came the Lee's.
Nowadays artist come from all over the world so no more generic names.
